  • Art Museum of Sao Paulo

    Fine-art museum located on Av. Paulista 1578. Free entry to everyone on Tuesdays, always free for children under 10 and adults over 60. Museum opens at 11:00.

  • Brazilian Museum of Sculpture

  • Casa das Rosas

    The house of roses is a French style mansion with gardens inspired by those at Versailles. The building is an official municipal landmark and is now a cultural center in Sao Paulo. Open Tuesday to Sunday. 10:00-18:00. Av. Paulista, 37, Paraiso.

  • Cathedral da Se

    Neo-Gothic church with beautiful towers and stained glass windows in the Praca da se, Centro. Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 08:00-17:00, Sunday 08:30-18:00. Tour''s Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 09:30-16:30.

  • Cemiterio da Consolacao

    Sometimes referred to as the "museum of the open heavens" this cemetary in central Sao Paulo has magnificent sculptures in bronze and stone. Monday to Sunday 07:00-18:00. Entrance is Free. Rua da Consoloacao, 1660.

  • Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB)

    Banco do Brasil´s first agency in downtown Sao Paulo now houses a cultural center. There you can watch movies and concerts of all types. Open Tuesday to Sunday 09:00-20:00. Located at Rua Alvares Penteado, nº 112; Rua da Quitanda, nº 18.

  • Centro da Cultura Judaica (Cultural Jewish Center)

    Jewish history and culture in Brazil since 2003. Building also houses a theatre and art gallery. Occasional book fairs and lectures. Cafe serves local Jewish cuisine. Weekdays 10:00-21:00. Weekends 14:00-19:00. R. Oscar Freire 2500, Pinheiros.

  • Choque Cultural

    Commercial gallery presenting works of young Brazilian artists coming from graffiti, tattoo, graphic design, illustration and urban art styles. Two locations: Rua Joao Moura, 997, Pinheiros and Rua Medeiros de Albuquerque 25, Pinheiros.

  • Convento e Santuario Sao Francisco (Convent and Sanctuary of Saint Francisco)

    This impressive building is actually two churches, one run by Catholic clergy and the other by lay brothers. Well preserved Portuguese colonial building built in 1647. Open daily 07:30-20:00, entrance free. Largo Sao Francisco 133, Centro.

  • Edificio Altino Arantes (Altino Arantes building)

    The 36th floor of the BANESPA Building offers a panoramic view of Sao Paulo. Inaugurated in 1947 and modelled on the Empire State Building in New York. Weekdays 10:00-17:00, entrance is free, ID required. Rua Joao bricola 24, Centro. Metro: Sao Bento.

  • Edificio Copan (Copan Building)

    Oscar Niemeyer designed this apartment and office block with clean, white and undulating curves. The architect went on to design much of Brasilia, Brazil''s capital. Av. Ipiranga 200, Centro. Metro: Republica.

  • Edificio Italia (Italian Building)

    Named after the Italian immigrants who helped with construction this impressive building offers spectacular views of the Sao Paulo skyline. Restaurant on the 41st floor provides varied menu. Tea 15:00-17:30. Avenida Ipiranga 334, Metro: Republica.

  • Edificio Martinelli (Martinelli Building)

    The first skyscraper built in Sao Paulo, in 1920 it was the tallest building in South America. In 1992 the building was classified a historic monument. Monday, Wednesday and Friday 09:00-10:00 and 14:30-15:30. Free, ID required. Av. Sao Joao, 35.

  • Estacao Pinacoteca

    Renovated warehouses now house collections by numerous artists including the Nemirovsky collection. Walter Wey library containing books, catalogs, DVDs and CDs. Cafe and virtual shop. Largo General Osorio, 66, Luz, Sao Paulo.

  • Fundacao Maria Luisa e Oscar Foundation

    Founded in 1974 by the Engineer Oscar Americano and now open to the public, historical Brazilian objects, tea room and shop. Tuesday to Friday 11:00-17:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00-17:00.

  • Galeria Jaqueline Martins

    Features work of new artists alongside veteran artist's works. Rua Dr. Virgilio de Carvalho Pinto 74, Pinheiros.

  • Instituto Butantan

    The Institute Butantan has snakes, scorpions, spiders and lizards in a total of five museums. Av. Vital Brasil 1500, Butanta. Tuesday to Sunday 09:00-16:30.

  • Instituto Itau Cultural

    Maintained by Itau, one of Brazil''s largest banks. Art shows, lectures, work-shops and films. Also an archive of photos depicting history of Sao Paulo at this Cultural Institute. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-21:00. Av. Paulista 149. Paraiso.

  • Memorial da America Latina

    Oscar Niemeyer designed these memorial buildings which include the Pavilhao da Criatividade Poplular (Popular Creativity Pavilion) which displays handicrafts from all over Latin America. 09:00-18:00. Av. Soares de Moura Andrade 664, Barra Funda.

  • Musea da Lingua Portuguesa (Museum of the Portuguese Language)

    Informative Museum about the language, history and literature of Brazilian Portuguese. Explained through images and video presentations. Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00. Located at Estacao da Luz, Praca da Luz.

  • Museu Anchieta

    Museum exhibiting the religious history of the Jesuits. Pca. Pateo do Collegio, 02 - Centro - Sao Paulo. Tuesday to Friday 09:00-16:45; Saturday and Sunday from 09:00-16:30.

  • Museu Casa do Anhanguera

  • Pavilhao Japones

  • Teatro Municipal de Sao Paulo

    Inspired by the Paris Opera and built in 1911, the central Municipal Theatre hosts operas, concerts and ballets. Guided tours can be arranged by appointment on Tuesday and Thursday to view the museum. Situated just off the Praca Ramos de Azevedo.
